Ngā Hua o Tāne
By Julia Kihi-Coates
1200 x 300 mixed media on mdf
Inspired by the star Tupuārangi that represents all of the bounty that we find growing in the sky. The colours of this piece are inspired by the bright reds, oranges, yellows and browns of the many native berries found in our rākau such as karaka, miro, tītoki and kawakawa. These were an important source of kai and sustenance for our tipuna, and are still gathered and consumed by many kaumātua and whānau.
