Te Ara o Te Rangatiratanga

By Uriah Kihi-Coates

1200 x 300 mixed media on mdf

This piece was inspired by the recent Toitū march that many of our whānau participated in as an assertion of Mana Motuhake and Tino RANGATIRATANGA. The pounamu design is a stepped pattern often found on tukutuku panels, symbolises whakapapa and also the various levels of learning, engagement in traditional mātauranga and intellectual achievement. We are all on our individual journeys and play different roles in the Tino Rangatiratanga movement, this piece honours all of us that are engaged in learning and engaging in our tikanga and mātauranga for our tamariki and mokopuna.
